The publisher of Grand Theft Auto 6 is committed to providing content that much exceeds the cost of the game and wants the price to be “good news” for players.
According to GameSpot, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two, was recently questioned on an earnings call regarding his opinions on pricing for the publisher’s complete library as well as the Grand Theft Auto series in particular. In response, he said:
More content is being created all the time and we really strive to provide great value at all times.
We are incredibly focused on providing more value than what is included in the price tag. And this is kind of a standard.
Zelnick added that Take-Two always wants the “experience to significantly exceed” the price of the game and that the pricing should be “good news” for customers when it sets a price for a game.
Naturally, a lot of people are curious about GTA 6’s price, but Zelnik deftly sidestepped a direct response. When it comes to next-generation video games, Take-Two was the first publisher to implement a $70 per game price tag with NBA 2K21 a few years ago. Since then, many other publishers, like Sony, Square Enix, and others, have followed suit.
Zelnick stated in 2023 that he still thought players were content to spend $70 on games.
All of this virtually ensures that you’ll pay at least $70 for the upcoming game when it launches in the fall of 2025, but it doesn’t mean you need be concerned about the price of Grand Theft Auto 6 increasing. It’s worthwhile to hold off for future editions with unique content that players will like to get.
