Relic Entertainment has officially become independent - work on Company of Heroes and Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War will continue

Relic Entertainment has made the exciting announcement that it is now an independent studio. The team’s departure from the publishing house SEGA was made public at the end of March. The studio achieved a successful transition with the assistance of the investment company Emona Capital.

According to reports, the funds from Emona Capital will provide sufficient support to maintain independence and focus on fundamental aspects. The investment company has confirmed its commitment to investing in Relic’s portfolio of franchises, which includes popular titles like Company of Heroes and Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War.

Furthermore, Emona Capital will provide assistance to Relic in securing agreements with third-party publishers and franchise owners, should the studio choose to develop a game under a different license.

After departing from SEGA’s wing, Relic Entertainment unfortunately had to undergo significant layoffs, saying goodbye to 41 employees. Now the team is providing ongoing support for the Company of Heroes 3 strategy.

Relic Entertainment was established in 1997. In 2004, it was acquired by THQ, and later by SEGA after the publisher’s bankruptcy in 2013. The team has gained a reputation for their exceptional work on the Homeworld, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War, and Company of Heroes franchises.
