After the show, Phil Spencer sat down for an interview with IGN to discuss the Xbox portable and the company’s commitment to reaching players wherever they are. And although there was no official confirmation or denial of an Xbox portable console, Spencer acknowledged:

I believe it would be beneficial for us to acquire a handheld console.

The future of our hardware is filled with promise, and the team’s expertise in various form factors and gameplay techniques fills me with great excitement. Today was dedicated to gaming, and we’re excited to discuss the platform in more detail later.

Spencer responded to the question about the upcoming Xbox handheld, discussing its similarities to the Steam Deck in terms of offline play and whether it will be a cloud-based device.

I believe that having the ability to play games locally is crucial.

It seems that Spencer has strongly indicated intentions to launch a portable Xbox that will allow for offline gaming. Portable Xbox consoles have been around for quite some time. In 2017, Spencer mentioned that Microsoft was already developing a comparable platform.
