Former Red Dead Redemption and GTA lead developer is creating a new sci-fi game

Rockstar co-founder and veteran game developer Dan Houser is currently working on multiple ideas at his new studio, Absurd Ventures. One of these ideas includes a sci-fi intellectual property that may serve as the foundation for an exciting open-world action game, as mentioned in a recent job posting.

In 2023, Absurd Ventures made its grand entrance as a studio dedicated to crafting innovative IPs that prioritize captivating storytelling. Although video games were mentioned as a potential direction for the studio, the extent of their connection to its activities was unclear. Interestingly, the studio’s initial projects included a graphic novel and a podcast. However, this week a job posting has provided confirmation that the studio is working on an open-world action-adventure game.

There is a chance that the podcast series could serve as an introduction to the video game. The 12-episode audio drama, titled “A Better Paradise Volume One: An Aftermath,” is set to be released on June 10. It has been described in a press release as the inaugural tale in a vast new universe crafted and penned by Houser. Another experienced GTA writer, Lazlo Jones, is also part of the project.

Here’s the description:

The action takes place in the near future. A BETTER PARADISE Volume One: An Aftermath tells the story of the failed creation of an ambitious but addictive digital gaming world developed by inventor and psychologist Dr. Mark Tyburn. As the advanced software they were developing began producing unexpected and alarming results, the team disbanded under strange circumstances and the project was abandoned. The game world and super-intelligence remained untouched and undiscovered. Still.

Near-future sci-fi would be an excellent choice for a new game, especially with a developer as experienced as Hauser. Unfortunately, it seems highly improbable that we can anticipate a release anytime soon.
