Tips and Tactics for Playing Duos in 2XKO

The main advantage of tag-based fighting games is the ability to control multiple characters at once, which adds variety and opens up new tactical possibilities. 2XKO takes this aspect to a new level, placing a special emphasis on 2-on-2 team battles.

Fighting with a partner is always exciting, especially when you can combine different playstyles and character expertise, unleashing two distinct strategies on your opponent and switching them up as soon as they begin to anticipate your moves. Here are some tips for getting started with duo play.

The key to success is communication

Regardless of everything else, the most important thing in a duo is communication. This is especially critical when switching partners.

The worst thing you can do is initiate a switch without warning, leaving your partner open to an easy combination from your opponent before he has time to react.

For this reason, it is extremely important to choose the right moment to switch and not to switch right before your own death .

This panicky switch usually results in your character’s death and leaves your partner vulnerable to a light combo attack immediately after entering the arena.

Train rescue and changeover

When playing solo, you know exactly when to break out of a combo and when to switch. In team mode, remember that Breaking doesn’t automatically switch with your partner. Use Break only to break your partner out of a combo that’s punishing them .

Avoid accidentally switching characters while attempting a rescue, and be careful not to waste your Break meter unnecessarily.

For example, don’t use Break while your partner is already blocking —you’ll waste resources for both yourself and your partner . Since the Break meter is shared , it’s best to save it for the perfect moment.

Practicing the right timing for saves and recognizing your opponent’s combos during a match are the best ways to learn how to use Break effectively.

Change places before the match starts

When playing in a duo, you’ll learn a lot after your first encounter with your opponents. Use this information to prepare for the next round. Most opponents start with the same champion; this is your chance to change everything .

You can swap places with your partner before the match begins by pressing the swap button right before the battle begins. This allows you to decide in advance who should go first and under what circumstances.

Whether you want to unleash your strongest fighter right away or save him for the decisive moment at the end of the match , you can start the fight however you see fit.

Watch out for Assist rollback

An important tip that’s easy to forget: your Assist has a cooldown , so be mindful of when you use it. You don’t want to find yourself in a situation where you’re trying to help a teammate but can’t, or trying to switch but that’s also unavailable.

A big part of playing in a duo is paying close attention to what your partner is doing and reacting as needed without wasting your abilities on the cooldown .

The duo that uses Assist controls Breaks and Fury Breaks, so be mindful even when your character is inactive to avoid missing a chance to help out your partner.

Take turns with your partner using different strategies

Don’t rely on just one way to switch – not only will it become predictable for your opponent, but it could also put your partner in a dangerous position.

There are several ways to make a substitution, and to be successful in a duet you need to use the right one at the right time.

After using Assist, if you want to switch, make sure you don’t do it in a disadvantageous position.

You can also perform an uppercut on your opponent and swap with your partner instead of a regular swap. To do this, press down and the swap button . If you land a hit, you’ll swap with your partner, striking your opponent, and allowing your partner to continue the combo. This will create a great combo and allow your partner to safely reenter the fight.

Another safe way to switch is to use the “Double Down Fusion” combo . This allows both players to simultaneously use their super meter against the opponent. The active player will start the animation, and the partner can interrupt it and perform their own super move by pressing their super button.

Since you spend meter charge, in most cases, if the opponent gets hit, you will safely transition into another special move, preventing the opponent from attacking your partner after the transition.

This deals serious damage and gives your duo an advantage going into the match.

Choose the best Fusion for your duet

As mentioned in the previous tip, the Double Down Fusion combo is one of the best options for duo play. It allows you and your partner to use up your super meter and safely swap mid-super, dealing heavy damage to your opponent.

Some Fusions, like Juggernaut, may not be as useful in team play. However, excellent options like 2X Assist can be helpful if your teammate wants to use Assists more often.

Freestyle and Sidekick Fusions also depend on how you and your partner use assists and may better suit your playstyle.

Make sure you find a Fusion that suits both players’ playstyles. Double Down Fusion and 2X Assist Fusion are great starting options if you’re unsure. Just make sure your partner has a meter charge and times their attack correctly.
