WAPDA Latest Jobs 2022 Apply Now The Water and Power Development Authority WAPDA Jobs 2022 have been announced on the website www.wapda.gov.pk. WAPDA is the country’s premier engineering firm, executing multi-dimensional water and power development projects of national significance. Applications are being accepted on a regular basis from qualified candidates for the following positions at WAPDA House Lahore. Interested candidates should apply online at the WAPDA website. The age limit, qualification, experience, and domicile requirements for each position are listed in the advertisement below.

The WAPDA Charter
The Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) was established in February 1958 by an act of parliament for the integrated and rapid development and maintenance of the country’s water and power resources. This includes controlling soil salinity and water logging in order to rehabilitate affected land and strengthen the country’s primarily agricultural economy.

WAPDA has been assigned the duties of investigation, planning, and execution of projects and schemes for • Generation, Transmission, and Distribution of Power, • Irrigation, Water Supply and Drainage, • Prevention of Water Logging and Reclamation of Saline Land, • Flood Control, and • Inland Navigation, according to the charter, which was amended in March 1959 to transfer the existing electricity departments from the federating units to it.

Later developments, such as the “Energy Policy 1994,” shifted the establishment of thermal power generation projects to the private sector. Similarly, as a result of the Power Wing’s restructuring, the utility division was corporatized into independent companies. This shift from convergence to divergence resulted in the formation of 14 entities that operate in different zones. National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC), four Thermal Power Generation Companies (GENCOs), and nine Distribution Companies are among them. The current status of these companies is that of corporate public limited entities under the residual Power Wing, and they are thus now in charge of major hydroelectric power projects and schemes that are currently in operation.

Human Capital
The Authority is led by a Chairman and three members, each of whom is in charge of the Water, Power, and Finance Wings. Members direct the affairs of their respective wings through General Managers, resulting in more efficient operations in their respective areas. WAPDA has developed its human resource as a reservoir of knowledge, competence, and expertise over the past 62 years of operations through training and experience gained at completed projects and remaining involved with diverse development activities. These include professionals, specialists, scientists, economists, administrators, accountants, and skilled workers for project planning, construction, management, and operation.

Water Wing Member (Water) controls the water wing through its implementation divisions, which include North, Central, South, and Northern Areas, as well as project-specific zones such as Mangla, Neelum Jhelum, Mohmand Dam Diamer Basha Dam, and Dasu Hydropower Projects. In general, these zones cover Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, and AJ&K. Water wing activities include the execution of water storage dams, conveyance canals, hydropower project development, Salinity Control & Reclamation Projects (SCARPS), and water sector research. Water Wing Projects are implemented effectively and on time by Chief Engineers and Project Directors at various levels. GM Finance is in charge of this wing’s financial affairs (Water). Other offices, in addition to project offices, include Hydro Resources Management. Technical Services (TS), Hydro Planning, Coordination & Monitoring (C&M), and the Central Design Office (CDO) all provide technical services to various projects.

Hydro Resources Management (HRM) is in charge of managing water resources across the country. This office is responsible for a variety of tasks, including monitoring, collecting, evaluating, and publishing hydro-meteorological data for the planning, development, and operation of water resources projects; coordinating with federal/provincial flood management and reservoir operation authorities; forecasting water availability for distribution among provinces; annual, periodic, and special inspections of water sector projects; and evaluating proposals submitted by consultants.

Technical Services (TS) offers technical advice on various water resource and hydropower projects.

The Central Design Office (CDO) is in charge of providing one-stop design services for projects such as dams, power plants, irrigation and drainage networks, flood protection, roads, and buildings, as well as providing technical support to the field formations of WAPDA (Water Wing), GENCO, NTDC, DISCOs, and others during the implementation/construction of new projects and remedial measures/troubleshooting for previously completed projects.

The Hydro Planning Organization (HPO) is in charge of the country’s hydropower and water resource project planning and feasibility studies. HPO currently has hydropower projects in various stages of development with a total capacity of over 20,000 MW.

The Office of Coordination and Monitoring Water disseminates streamlined Water Wing information to Government functionaries and Ministries. This office is also in charge of Human Resource Management and Administration for all WAPDA Water Wing offices.

WAPDA Power Wing After the de-bundling of WAPDA into various companies related to the business of Thermal Generation, Transmission, and Distribution, Power Wing is now responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Hydel Power Stations under the generation licence granted by NEPRA in the name of General Manager (Hydel) Operation. The electricity generated by these power plants is delivered to the NTDCL grid system, and invoices are issued to CPPAG in accordance with the Tariff approved by NEPRA.

Old Hydel Power Station Rehabilitation/Refurbishment is also planned and implemented to improve power plant reliability and life. WAPDA is also in charge of coordinating and monitoring the design, construction, and commissioning of future hydroelectric power plants and other electrical and mechanical equipment.

Power Wing also provides technical and management trainings to its employees at WAPDA Administrative & Staff College Islamabad, WAPDA Engineering Academy Faisalabad, and Hydel Training Centre Mangla in order to build their capacity. This facility is also available to employees of ex-WAPDA entities (NTDCL/DISCOs/GENCOs), AJK Hydro Board, Gilgit Baltistan, and private sector power stations.

There is also a separate establishment in the Power Wing for the purchase and disposal of unserviceable or surplus materials/items in all WAPDA formations. All Power Wing financial matters are managed by General Manager (Finance) Power, who reports to Member Power.

The total installed capacity of the 21 WAPDA Hydel Power Stations is currently 8420 MW, accounting for approximately 23% of the total system capacity of 36,166 MW from all sources. The Internet Electrical Output is about 32,000 GWh per annum.

The Authority Fund
The Authority Fund is made up of the following components:

• Loans and grants obtained from the federal and provincial governments • WAPDA Bond sale proceeds • Loans obtained with general government sanction • Foreign aids and loans obtained from the IBRD, ADB, and other International loan giving agencies on terms and conditions approved by the government • All other sums received by the Authority.
