Since its inception in 1981, this university has played a vital role in imparting agricultural education, conducting basic and applied agricultural research throughout the province, and disseminating agricultural research results among farmers and the general public through outreach/public service activities.

As one of the country’s premier institutions, the University has earned the reputation of offering high-quality agricultural education and research to its students. Graduates of this university have prominent positions in public-private sector enterprises both in Pakistan and overseas. They are the University’s ambassadors, and they have brought honor to the University’s name and standing.

750 students will be given Bachelor, Master, and Ph.D. degrees during the current convocation. Presidential Awards, Gold Medals, Silver Medals, and Bronze Medals will be presented to outstanding pupils.

The university is a business. It has the authority to provide instruction, training, research, and outreach in agriculture, animal husbandry, and other fields of study. The University of Agriculture, Peshawar’s objective is to develop quality graduates in agriculture and associated subjects.

The University’s teaching and research programmes are delivered by 5 faculties, 26 departments, and 3 institutes. Bachelor, Master, M.Phil, and Ph.D. degrees are available in Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences, Rural Development, Rural Sociology, and Bio-technology, as well as Management Sciences, Information Technology, and Computer Sciences. Since the program’s inception in 1997, more than 50 Ph.D. scholars have graduated, and over 250 are now enrolled, pursuing their Ph.D. studies. All of these academic programmes are overseen by 185 highly competent faculty members, 104 of whom hold Ph.D degrees from prestigious international universities.

The University of Agriculture, Peshawar, being the premier institute for agricultural education and research, is obligated to supply skilled labour to all agricultural sectors in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. As a prestigious educational institution, it is also expected to do basic and applied research.
Aside from degree programmes, the University has played an important role in training scientists and students from linked institutions through short-term trainings in several agricultural and relevant subjects. Similarly, foreign trainings have been a regular element of this University personnel production programme, which has so far trained hundreds of Afghan citizens.

This university celebrated its 25th anniversary on February 4, 2006. The University has seen significant adjustments over the years. This university’s faculty and researchers have been doing basic and applied research of international calibre. The University is ahead of many other universities in this quest. A number of national and international research projects have been completed, and the faculty is still managing 85 projects that were won through national and international competitions

Besides earning projects at the national and international levels, the staff and students have also displayed distinction in other academic and co-curricular activities.

In the 2005 Students Convocation, one of our students, Umm-e-Aiman, took first place at the provincial level and remained in the top ten at the national level.
Four of our female students were successful in reserving their spots at the national level Convention this year. Our female student received first place on the FATA reserved seat at the Provincial Convention and will attend the National Convention Convention 2006 in the 3rd week of April.

Besides curricular and co-curricular pursuits, the University has also been in the forefront in social work activities. During the recent earthquake massive disaster in part of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir, The University of Agriculture, Peshawar provided financial, material, physical and moral help to the earthquake affectees. More than 60 faculty, officers and staff alongwith 400 students of the University worked in the field. The University established six camps in Abbottabad and Mansehra as focal points for relief activities. The transport of the University was engaged to provide food stuff and clothing and to shuttle patients. All our faculty and staff contributed 6 days salary in the Relief Fund.
