Overview
Higher Education Department (HED) is in charge of education, learning, and related services for students, as well as faculty / teaching and non-teaching staff in public and private universities in Punjab. Its goal is to create a highly educated society in which educational chances are equitable for all young people in Pakistan, regardless of their socioeconomic, ethnic, or cultural background or familial circumstances.

HED is a Ministerial Department with a large network of field offices to ensure that executive decisions are followed. Currently, HED functions through a network of one field headquarters, namely the Directorate of Public Instructions Colleges Punjab, nine divisional directors, and 37 district directors, which manage over 750 colleges in Punjab.

Furthermore, HED oversees nine Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) for examination purposes, each with divisional headquarters. In addition, more than 50 public and private sector universities, as well as 26 autonomous institutions, are overseen by HED.
