AMD to Release Z2 Extreme Processor for Next-Generation Laptops in 2025 — Media

Low battery life is considered one of the disadvantages of portable PCs. AMD plans to solve this problem by releasing a new hybrid processor.

According to Digital Trends, AMD plans to release the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor for laptops in early 2025.

“AMD’s Jack Hyunh noted that he wants to play Black Myth: Wukong for three hours instead of the current 45 minutes.<…>The new chip should help with that.”

AMD hasn’t shared any performance details for the Z2 Extreme, but it has said it’s already working with several partners, including  the new “portables” from ASUS and Lenovo, the ROG Ally 2 and Lenovo Legion Go 2.

Many modern laptops, such as the ASUS ROG Ally X and Lenovo Legion Go, are powered by the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme chip, which means we can expect a refresh of the laptop lineup from big brands next year that will offer better performance and battery life thanks to the new AMD chip.

“Are we expecting SteamDeck 2 on the Z2 Extreme chip or is Valve developing its own solution?”  experts wonder. Detailed information about the new hybrid processor for portable PCs should be expected at the CES 2025 exhibition, which will be held from January 7 to 10, 2025 in Las Vegas.
